Dear Marybeth:
I attended the meeting of the Abington Rotary Club and became the guest speaker!
There are nine members of the Club and all nine were there. The President is Judi McCabe.
All members of the Club are 100% in favor the joint meeting, have put it on their calendars, and are looking forward to it.
I discussed suggestions for a program, and they were in favor of these also. I will get back to you on that.
I will be the speaker at this meeting and will do the program and program booklet.
They are working on a fundraiser, selling tickets to an event where a young lady will roll play "Lady Di". I asked that they send the information, etc., to me so that I could in turn send it to the appropriate members of Braintree Rotary. I said that I could not commit to anything, only to forwarding the information, in that it would be an executive board decision, etc., and everyone fully understood that.
A very pleasant visit!
Rotarily,
Patrick |

Bill Powers has been active in the Massachusetts law enforcement community since he joined the Massachusetts State Police in 1974. Over time he rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Detective Lieutenant. He commanded the State Police Detective Units (SPDU) in both Middlesex and Suffolk Counties, where he had direct oversight and involvement in more than one hundred homicides. His State Police career came full circle when he was named Commandant of the Recruit Training Academy. He retired as the director of the Media Relations Section. Following his retirement, Bill was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the graduate program for forensic sciences at the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). For the next seven years he lectured on criminal investigation and expert testimony to the graduate students. In addition, he produced several training seminars for police investigators covering a wide variety of topics. Following his tenure at the BUSM he returned to the law enforcement profession as the Director of Public Safety at Wentworth Institute in Boston. Bill earned an undergraduate degree from Northeastern University with a major in Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctorate degree from the New England School of Law. He resides South of Boston with his wife Jane. Their two daughters and their families live nearby. He has been blessed with five remarkable grandchildren who sparkle like bright stars in the night sky.

Hello James, Can you schedule me for a Zoom presentation on melanoma, a skin cancer that is often lethal but, when found early, is easily cured in an outpatient setting without a need for follow-up chemo or radiation? The PowerPoint presentation is complimentary. There are no requests for contributions and no advertising during or anytime after the presentation. You may use your Zoom connection if you have an account; if not I can use my account if your meeting place has wifi and A/V for in-person members to see and hear the presentation. The American Cancer Society predicts 186,670 new U.S. cases of melanoma in 2023; It can strike anyone from preteen to elderly. The presentations are available to all Eastern and Atlantic time zone clubs in the U.S. and Canada. I have devoted the past 22 years to educating teen students and adults about self-detection and prevention of melanoma. In June, 2022 our nonprofit organization began reaching out to Rotary clubs, conducting presentations for 167 clubs so far. A short bio and comments from Rotarians are posted on our Rotary Outreach page at < https://www.skincheck.org/RotaryClubOutreach.html >. Including my presentation in a future scheduled meeting would be greatly appreciated. If you suggest some possible dates I’ll do my best to accommodate. You are welcome to contact me by email or phone with zero obligation. Stephen A. Fine Founder and President Melanoma Education Foundation Member, Rotary Club of Peabody, MA Tel: 978-535-3080 |

Greetings! I’m a member of the Ipswich-Rowley (Mass.) Rotary. I’ve spoken at nearly 60 Rotary Clubs across New England, and I’d like to propose an upbeat yet meaningful in-person Rotary presentation for the Braintree group. (I always bring a fun gift for each member attending.) The humanitarian charity that I lead, NewThing.net, works in Belarus. The work is especially interesting and important now, in the context of the Ukraine conflict. As you plan your in-person meetings for this fall and beyond, I’d be grateful for an opportunity to speak to your group. (I’ve written a couple novels, one winning a prize for humor, and I’ve performed in amateur theatrical comedies for decades, so I promise my talk won’t be boring :-) Our work in Belarus is 100% volunteer and humanitarian, completely non-political and non-religious; and I never ask for money from a Rotary Club. (Our Club’s past president, Dr. Martha Mauser, will gladly vouch for me as a speaker; she’s mmauser@mauserlaw.com.) I hope to hear from you soon, via Unconventional@DougBrendel.com. Thanks for your consideration! —Doug Brendel |
